It is not unusual for law firms to create a new Centre of Excellence by re-deploying existing staff into new roles. This is a great way to accelerate the execution of your Data Governance Roadmap.
But this means that new Data Governance Leads will need support to learn and share skills which may be new to them—and this is not always available in-house.
Iron Carrot supports your data governance team by sharing their knowledge, expertise, and experiences to upskill through formal and informal learning opportunities.
We are always excited to offer mentoring and career development for new or junior Data Governance team members, allowing you to ‘grow your own’ experts.
What do we offer?
There are 3 activities which make up the available support.
1. Training
Training means teaching skills and knowledge related to specific valuable competencies to improve someone’s capability, capacity, productivity, and performance.
As well as providing ‘just in time’ short formal or informal training sessions to fill immediate knowledge gaps, we can recommend some self-paced informal learning from appropriate books, videos, and professional memberships.
2. Mentoring
Mentoring is sharing knowledge, experience, and skills to help someone develop their career. CJ has a wealth of knowledge to draw from since she has designed and implemented many data governance foundation roadmaps and has significant experience in creating and growing new organisational capabilities.
3. Coaching
Coaching is providing support to correctly set a goal and find the best way to achieve the goal with a focus on here-and-now problems. This is a great way of receiving ongoing ad-hoc support.
How does the process work?
Each person and each team are different, so we start by taking time to understand what they want to learn and/or get support with. We also look to their line manager and data governance sponsor for a wider perspective before building a blended offering which is tailor-made for each person or team.
Many plans are developed to provide phased support. This includes training, mentoring, and coaching, which is very hands-on in the first few months, tapering off to regular checkpoint meetings and ongoing ad hoc support.
We will produce a full schedule and plan so that each person and team can make the most of the training, mentoring, and or coaching that is on offer to support them.
Regular 2-way feedback throughout the process helps keep the plan fit for purpose.
What does the process give you?
A confident, knowledgeable data governance team with the skills to:
- deliver your firm’s data governance roadmap,
- develop data governance as a capability, and
- train and support Data Owners and Data Stewards
How is our process different?
By working with your new Data Governance Team members and empowering them to contribute to their support programme, they will be much more engaged and committed to making the most out of the support offered.
The blended approach helps your firm to deliver an operational Data Governance Framework while giving the Data Governance Lead the skills and support to plan what to do next.
